Airports
Georgia has two main international airports — the choice between them depends on which part of the country you plan to visit.
- Tbilisi (TBS) — the most common place to land. About 20 minutes from the center. Ideal for most: Tbilisi, Kazbegi, Kakheti, Kutaisi.
- Batumi (BUS) — on the Black Sea coast. About 15 minutes from the city. The natural choice for beaches, Adjara and coastal routes.
Tip: if your trip starts in Tbilisi and ends in Batumi (or the other way round) — consider flying into one airport and out of the other, and skip a long day on the road.
Flights to Georgia
There are direct flights to TBS and BUS from several European capitals, plus convenient connections via Istanbul, Vienna or Warsaw. Carriers on these routes include Georgian Airways, Wizz Air, Turkish Airlines and others.
When to book: for summer (June–August) it’s worth booking 6–10 weeks ahead. In winter there are sometimes deals — you can find good fares even 3–4 weeks out.
Prices: vary widely by season and airline. Holidays, long weekends and the summer high season are noticeably more expensive.
Flights from across Europe
From major European hubs there are frequent connections to Tbilisi. From Madrid and Barcelona — direct flights in summer, or a convenient connection via Istanbul. From Germany and Eastern Europe — many direct routes.
Tips before booking
- Luggage: most carriers include 23 kg. Check the fare conditions before booking — especially with low-cost airlines.
- Timing: overnight flights are very common. You arrive in Georgia in the morning — and get a full day in the city without spending it travelling.
- Return flight: TBS airport is busy in the morning. Arrive at least 2.5 hours before departure, especially in summer.
