Georgia with kids

Why it's a perfect family destination

Close, safe, cheap and full of nature — Georgia is a great family destination, even for first-timers. Here's why, and how to plan it.

Travelling with kids takes a balance of adventure and comfort, and Georgia manages it easily: a short flight, reasonable distances, food everyone likes and people who adore children.

Why it works

The Georgian mindset is especially warm toward children — you’ll get used to the smiles and attention. The country is very safe, the food is simple and tasty (khachapuri and khinkali are a sure win) and prices are low, so you can afford a private driver who makes everything easy.

Attractions for kids

In Tbilisi: the cable car to the Narikala fortress, the Mtatsminda amusement park on the mountain and the zoo. In Batumi: the seafront, a Ferris wheel and fountains. And in nature — cable cars, waterfalls and short horse rides suitable even for the little ones.

Tip: combine mountain days with city or beach days. A run of long mountain drives wears children out.

Distances and journeys

Distances in Georgia are reasonable, but the mountain roads are winding. With kids, a private driver-guide is far better than public transport — the flexibility to stop, air conditioning and no dependence on schedules.

Getting there: car seats aren’t a given in rentals or taxis — arrange them in advance if you need them.

Food and accommodation

Ordinary restaurants welcome families and the portions are large and made for sharing. Family guesthouses offer a homely experience and a yard to play in, usually at a good price.

A short, comfortable itinerary: Tbilisi (3 days) + Kazbegi (two days) + Batumi (3 days) gives an excellent mix of city, mountains and sea without overloading.
