Entering Georgia — visa-free

One of the good-news items for many travelers: no visa is required for Georgia. You show a valid passport on arrival, get a stamp, and can stay up to a full year. The border procedure is simple and quick in most cases.

Who doesn’t need a visa

NationalityStay
EU / UKup to 365 days

Israel / Russiaup to 365 days

Passport: must be valid for at least 6 months from the entry date. Temporary passport — check for updates before travelling.

What happens at the border

  1. You present your passport at the control desk.
  2. They sometimes ask brief questions: “What are you here for?”, “How long are you staying?”, “Where are you staying?”.
  3. You get a stamp in your passport — and a small card (immigration card). Keep it until you leave the country.

You generally don’t need a hotel reservation in advance, travel insurance (recommended but not required) or proof of bank balance.

Re-entry

You can leave the country and come back in — for example, a short trip to Turkey or Armenia. If you plan a long stay (more than 90 days), it’s worth checking the current rules before travelling.

Tip

Photograph the passport page with the stamp right after entry. If you lose your passport or it’s stolen — the photo will make the consulate process easier.
